Every year in May, Cannes gives a sort of snapshot — both ephemeral and lasting, when one adds up the years — of what constitutes the art of cinema.»

For the grand celebrations of this festival, an outdoor theatre has been built on this spot, with a view over the Massaciuccoli Lake. In presenting four or five performances of up to four operatic productions each season, the Festival attracts about forty thousand spectators to its open-air theatre, the Teatro dei Quattromila. This theatre is located very close to the house which the composer had built in 1900 and in which he lived and worked on his major operas — «Villa Puccini». Puccini is buried in a small chapel inside the Villa, along with other members of his family, in a room transformed into a mausoleum after his death. Besides this, other events relating to Puccini and his poetic stories are held around the lake to coincide with the festival, which has also become a platform of Puccini»s works.

The Notting Hill Carnival is one of the most awaited celebration in United Kingdom. It’s an annual event held during the month of August on the streets of Notting Hill, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London, UK. The two day event is led by members of the British African-Caribbean community, particularly the Trinidadian and Tobagonian British population or ‘Trinis’, many of whom have lived in the area since the 1950s. The carnival is tagged as the second largest street festival in the world.
The carnival traces its roots from two separate but connected strands. The Carnival began in January 1959 in St Pancras Town Hall as a response to the depressing state of race relations. This carnival organised by Claudia Jones (a «Trini») was a huge success, despite being held indoors. The other important strand was the «hippie» London Free School inspired festival that became the first organised outside event in August 1966. The prime mover was Rhaune Laslett, who was not aware of the indoor events when she first raised the idea. This was a more diverse Notting Hill event to promote cultural unity. A street party for neighbourhood children turned into a carnival procession when Russell Henderson’s steel band went on a walkabout. In recent years, the event has been much freer from serious trouble and is generally viewed very positively by the authorities as a dynamic celebration of London’s multi-cultural diversity. The main focus is the carnival parade, numerous floats working their way along Ladbroke Grove and around with dancers brightly attired, great music, dancing and singing. In the side streets the partying is just as intense- music stands are everywhere.

It’s an annual event observed during the month of May in the city of Aalborg, Denmark. The Aalborg Carnival is a week long event having 3 main carnival events, i.e The Grand Parade, Battle of Carnival Bands and Children’s Carnival. During the week long celebrations, everyone including professional carnival groups, children and others dress up in the costumes of their liking and participate in this extravaganza.
The Aalborg Carnival traces its origin back in the year 1983 when Kirsti Thorvaldsen, Ebbe Lauridsen, Kaj Steensgard and Bramwell Flyckt founded organized the first carnival in Aalborg. They later went on to establish the association and termed it as Aalborg Carnival. The founders wished to celebrate fantasy and the coming of spring through carnival traditions. For this purpose they started the carnival, where — the city was transformed into a gigantic theater with the citizens as actors, the street as the stage and the body as a dancing sculpture. After the 1987 edition, the Aalborg Carnival went through a dramatic crisis. The organizing committee lacked worked force and started to develop a new model for the carnival. NFU decided to offer their support and to contribute with considerable manpower to the board’s work. Thus, the Carnival Association rose again. The location of carnival was shifted to nearby park Kildeparken in place of Aalborg due to the lack of safety in the center and a substantial decrease in revenues.
